Four more Belarusian wrestlers have won licenses for the 2012 Olympic Games
Olympic licenses were won in the qualifying competitions in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling that was held in the city of Ta-Yuan (China).
The first Olympic licence was won by Belarusian athlete Saslan Gattsiev (weight category up to 84 kg). Freestyle wrestler reached the final, where he lost only to Jose Daniel Diaz Robertti – 0:4, 0:1. But as Olympic licenses in qualifying competitions of freestyle wrestlers in China get only three best athlets in each weight category, Saslan Gattsiev guaranteed his license for participation in the 2012 Olympic Games. On his way to the final Belarusian wrestler beat George-Gabriel Zeregelia from Germany, Jeffrey Adamson from Canada, Ermek Baiduashov from Kazakhstan and Si Rigulen from China.
Thus, Belarusian wrestlers have won four licenses for the 2012 Olympic Games. Before Soslan Gattsiev (up to 84 kg), the Olympic license was got by Ali Shabanov (up to 66 kg) at the recent qualifying competition. At the World Championship in 2011 licenses were won by Ruslan Sheikhov (up to 96 kg) and Alex Shemarov (up to 120 kg).
Two other Belarusian athlets- Alexander Kikinev (weight category up to 74 kg) and Iosif Chugoshvili (weight category up to 120 kg) won Olympic licenses at the qualifying competition in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Alexander Kikinev reached the final, but he didn’t enter to the decisive fight against Emin Akhmadov from Azerbaijan and he was awarded a forfeit loss – 0:5.
But as Olympic licenses in qualifying competitions of freestyle wrestlers in China win three best athlets in each weight category, Alexander Kikinev guaranteed his license for participation in the 2012 Olympic Games. On his way to the final he gained victories over Konstantin Schneider from Germany, Edgar Babayan from Poland, Ionel Pushkash from Romania and Alexander Kazakevich from Lithuania.
Iosif Chugoshvili reached the final in his category up to 120 kg (thereby he guaranteed his license for the 2012 Olympic Games in London), but in the decisive fight he lost to Heiki Nabi from Estonia – 1:0, 0:1, 0:1. On the way to the final he got victories over Euren Johan Magnus from Sweden, Xenofon Koutsioumpas from Greece and Guram Ferselidzefrom Georgia.
Thus, Belarusian wrestlers have gained five licenses for the 2012 Olympic Games. Before Alexander Kikinev (up to 74 kg) and Iosif Chugoshvili (up to 120 kg) Olympic licenses were won at the Wrestling World Championship – 2011 by Elbek Tozhiev (up to 55 kg), Alim Selimov (up to 84 kg) and Timofej Dejnichenko (up to 96 kg).
Moreover, in the city of Ta-Yuan were contested Olympic licenses in female wrestling. Only one of the three representatives of Belarus- Vanessa Kolodinskaja (up to 48 kg) managed to gain Olympic license. In the final she lost to the representative from Mongolia Otgontsetseg Davaasuh – 3:3, 0:4. But as Olympic licenses in female wrestling were got only by two athlets in each weight category, Vanessa Kolodinskaja guaranteed her license for participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. On the way to the final she gained victories over Francesca Mori from Italy and Rebecca Ndala Muamba from Cameroon.
Besides, the result of Belarusian athlete Zalina Sidakova should be noted. In the weight category up to 55 kg she took the third place, but didn’t gain Olympic license. Sidakova beat Buru Keshru from Turkey, Catherine Neumeier from Germany and Valentina Menuzzi from Italy, but lost in the semi-final to the representative from Mongolia Buambatseren Sundev, who came through to the final and won the license to London. Sidakova gained a victory over Lenka Martinakova from Czech Republic and won the bronze medal.
Thus, Belarusian athlets in female wrestling have won two licenses for the 2012 Olympic Games. Before Vanessa Kolodinskaja (up to 48 kg), the Olympic license was gained by Vasilisa Marzaljuk (up to 72 kg) at the World Championship 2011.
Special opportunity to gain Olympic licenses will be given at the Intercontinental Qualification Tournament in Helsinki, Finland (2-6 May). In each weight category two athletes will be qualified.
